Against Me! performing “The Disco Before the Breakdown” in Hartford, Conn., on Oct. 25, 2003. Turns out this was the first show for Greg Horbal, guitarist/vocalist for The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid To Die, who was 15 at the time.

This longhaired dude SCHOOLS (pun maybe intended) the American school system by going off on this teacher. So awesome.

Ugh, couldn’t even watch the whole thing. Self-righteous, irritating tool who thinks that if he rants at a teacher about how to do her job, then he’s “trying to make a difference” in the American school system.

Going to SUNY New Paltz was like going to college with 1,000 clones of this dude, minus the Southern accent.

For someone who likes punk and skateboarding so much, you are the most straight-laced person I’ve ever met. Vocal dissent isn’t always self-righteous.

It’s self-righteous and pointless when you’re “dissenting” against a high school teacher who probably makes around 50k a year. Maybe if he took a better-articulated, more respectful speech to his town’s Board of Ed, with the backing of a large group of his classmates, he might be on to something. Right now, all he’s doing is trying to boost his “activist” image to his classmates, and earning himself detentions.

Going through the proper channels isn’t always the effective response though. We both don’t know the context, but this is needed sometimes. “Fuck you”s are emotional responses and one of them at the right time and place can be just as powerful (probably more) than an army of students silently petitioning for a better scholastic environment.

And he wasn’t dissenting against a teacher, he was dissenting against the teacher’s practices, and from the sounds of it, it seems to be the law of the land at his school. If I had a science teacher teaching me creationism, I’d fucking flip out myself. It wouldn’t be the teacher’s fault per se, because he/she has a curriculum to abide by, but that teacher would be the one actually implementing the curriculum that doesn’t belong in a science classroom.

People need to to have reactions like this towards the insane things in society that have become commonplace, because as you can see, we are talking about it now.

No words can describe how cool this picture is to me. On the left, you have Tim Kasher, singer/songwriter of my all-time favorite band Cursive; on the right sits Brendan Kelly, singer/songwriter of my other all-time favorite band, The Lawrence Arms. The fact that they’re buds, sharing drinks — despite coming from completely different circles, both scene-wise and stylistically speaking, is fucking awesome.
It’s like if you had two best friends that you thought didn’t know each other, and then one day you find out they’re also buds, and you’re like “whoah!”
